The U.S. Mint today released its 2026 Native American $1 coin in recognition of Oneida heroine Polly Cooper. The coin represents the Oneida people’s critical role in the founding of the U.S., the Nation said in a news release. “The Oneida people became America’s First Allies on some of the bloodiest battlefields of the Revolutionary War,” said Oneida Indian Nation Representative Ray Halbritter in a statement. Cooper stayed at Valley Forge that winter, teaching the troops how to prepare the corn she brought and cooking for them. The Native American $1 Coin program started in 2009.
