Defence barristers urged jurors to focus on what the evidence actually shows rather than speculation or assumption at Preston Crown Court. Mr Scott died after being stabbed once in the heart at his home in Peridot Close, Blackburn, in the early hours of June 22 last year. Mr Hayton told jurors there was no evidence Clegg was armed with a knife, no forensic evidence linking her to any weapon, and no messages showing her tracking down Mr Scott. Closing on behalf of Donlin, Richard English KC accepted his client caused Mr Scott’s death but told jurors the stabbing was not intended. He said Donlin went to the address intending to threaten and intimidate Mr Scott, not to kill him.
