When discovered the mother dog, named Joy, had an entire litter of puppies, but by the time they were found, all but one puppy had died. He had spent his first 13 days of life locked in a urine and feces filled crate; his eight siblings dying one by one. At arrival Joy weighed 25 pounds and arrived in such poor condition, she was not able to produce milk for her last surviving puppy.
