Leonardo and Rheinmetall, through their joint venture Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles (LRMV), handed over the first four Lynx infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to the Italian Army on 27 January. This delivery officially launches the Italian Army’s A2CS (Army Armoured Combat Systems) programme, aimed at replacing its ageing fleet of VCC-80 Dardo vehicles. The A2CS programme, previously referred to as AICS (Armoured Infantry Combat System), along with the new Main Battle Tank programme, aims to modernise the heavy vehicle fleet of the Italian Army. Within this framework comes the delivery of the Lynx armoured vehicle, the result of Italian-German industrial cooperation, to the Italian Army, aimed at strengthening land systems through the introduction of state-of-the-art platforms.
