Paul Ehrlich’s bestselling book The Population Bomb warned of mass starvation if population growth continued unchecked, predicting ‘hundreds of millions’ would die of hunger in the 1970s and 1980s, especially in India and parts of Asia. While we chuckle over the humour in the posting, the message brings up the stark reminder of the dire consequences of global shrinking population. It slowed population growth, but created labour shortages and an ageing society which threatened to result in slow economic growth—the very problems it sought to prevent. Just as the Green Revolution staved off predicted mass starvation, the AI Revolution will help the world meet the challenges of shrinking global population.
