Man in his 70s dies after swimming off Keel Beach in AchillA man in his 70s has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Keel Beach in Achill. A local doctor performed CPR and a defibrillator sourced from a nearby village was used before the Sligo-based Coast Guard R118 emergency helicopter arrived on the beach at around 6.25pm. The man was brought by helicopter at 6.40pm to Mayo University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The man was believed to have been visiting the area, according to two local people who spoke to the Sunday World. Achill Coast Guard thanked all the agencies involved in attending to the deceased man.
