Bernard Collins was a decorated former Castlehaven player who helped guide the West Cork club to their first senior county final in 1979, beating then-reigning All-Ireland club champions Nemo Rangers in the semi-finals. He was part of what’s known locally as the Collins dynasty, dating back to Bernard’s father, Dan. The club posted tributes to the man in his 60s, who was killed while driving his tractor on a country road between Leap and Drinagh. It is believed that Mr Collins may have suffered a heart attack in the lead-up to the incident. Mr Collins will repose in Shanahan’s Funeral Home, Leap, on Thursday from 5pm to 7pm, followed by prayers.
