‘I did not insult Olubadan’, Obi clarifies congratulatory message to monarch after backlash

In the goodwill message to the Olubadan on Saturday, Obi had referred to him as “my dear elder brother,” but the phrase did not seat well with a lot of people who saw the statement as disrespectful and an insult to the Yoruba traditional institutions.
While criticizing Obi, former presidential aide, Omokri, said the message demonstrated Obi’s lack of respect, cultural sensitivity and diplomatic polish.
“Certainly, no disrespect intended in my goodwill message to His Royal Majesty.
I felicitated with my dear elder brother, the newly crowned, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja,” Obi wrote.
I always refer to His Royal Majesty Igwe Alfred Achebe, Obi of Onitsha, as my very dear elder brother in the same affectionate manner.
