A Canandaigua man was arrested Friday afternoon after failing to appear in court on charges related to animal abandonment. Deputies arrested Phillip R. Schmidt, 31, at his residence on Beeman Street around 2 p.m. on September 26. He was taken into custody on a bench warrant issued by Canandaigua City Court. According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Schmidt was originally arrested on August 2 following an investigation by the Humane Society. After failing to appear for any of his scheduled court dates, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
