['Yucatan Times']
The Yucatan Times
With a mournful civic ceremony and the participation of more than 1,500 buildings in the Second National Drill 2025, Yucatán joined the commemoration of National Civil Protection Day, which commemorates the victims of the earthquakes that occurred in 1985 and 2017 in Mexico City.
Starting at 8:00 a.m., the national flag was raised at half-mast in the Plaza Grande in memory of the earthquake victims.
The ceremony was accompanied by the drumbeat of the National Guard War Band and concluded with a minute of silence.
In his message, Pérez Avilés emphasized that each year this commemoration renews Mexico’s commitment to prevention, solidarity, and the culture of civil protection, a legacy of those who lost their lives.
“This day is also an opportunity to recognize those who give their lives to protect citizens: civil protection personnel, firefighters, medical personnel, security forces, the Army, and the Navy.
