Photos of the new taxi presented by the Andrés Quintana Roo Taxi Drivers’ Union in Cancún are circulating on social media. However, they have been described as a “low-cost” form of transportation that would damage the destination’s image due to its low capacity and unattractive appearance. “It’s inconceivable that a place that seeks to compete with the world’s major tourist cities would try to offer transportation in low-capacity, unattractive vehicles. Rubén Carrillo, secretary of the union, presented these vehicles, an Indian brand, as an affordable option for dealers. In August, it was announced that tourists could now schedule taxi rides to and from Cancún Airport with Uber, which had partnered with Flex Eco Taxi.
