Google announced on Wednesday it is scrapping data transfer fees for organizations using multicloud setups in the European Union and the UK. The new service, “Data Transfer Essentials,” was launched just ahead of the EU Data Act, which comes into effect on Friday, September 12. Microsoft introduced “at cost” data transfer fees in the EU in August, a direct compliance with the incoming Act. The 2018 US CLOUD Act empowers US authorities to demand data from American tech companies, regardless of where that data is stored globally.
