Gaoyuan Zhang: I was surprised, not only that I won the award, but also that the topic of AI won the award. This means that AI will probably continue to play a major role in paints and coatings in the future and the industry will become more open to it. Zhang: We found a correlation between the wet colour spectrum and the dry colour spectrum using an AI model, a deep learning model. This allows us to predict the wet colour spectrum based on the dry colour spectrum and vice versa. With the colour spectrum, we avoid the phenomenon of metamerism and always have the right colour.
