Huntsman Corporation has announced the closure of its maleic anhydride facility located in Moers, North Rhine-Westphalia. The decision follows a strategic review of the company’s European maleic anhydride business, which recorded an adjusted EBITDA loss of approximately USD 10 million in 2024. As a result of the closure, Huntsman anticipates a one-time, non-cash asset impairment charge of roughly USD 75 million (around EUR 69.5 million). Supply to shift to North AmericaIn the future, Huntsman plans to serve its European customers from production sites in Pensacola, Florida, and Geismar, Louisiana. Maleic anhydride is a key intermediate used in the production of resins, plasticisers and additives, including for applications in the coatings and adhesives industries.
