Combination of high thermal stability and recyclability
[]
European Coatings
Scientists from North University of China have developed a novel bio-based benzoxazine resin that offers both high thermal stability and recyclability.
The researchers utilized a strategy combining rigid conjugated dynamic dihydrazone bonds with bio-based components.
The resin is synthesized from bio-vanillin and hydrazine hydrate and demonstrates thermal stability comparable to petroleum-based alternatives, with a char yield of 59.5 % at 800 °C.
At the same time, the incorporated acid-labile dynamic bonds enable controlled degradation under various conditions.
In carbon fiber composites, 96 % of the original fiber strength was retained after 24 hours of resin decomposition.
