A joint team from India and Germany has presented an innovative smart coating for corrosion protection of mild steel.
The system is based on an epoxy/polyvinylidene fluoride (EPV) matrix incorporating two types of ZIF-8 particles: benzotriazole-loaded particles (ZBT) enabling self-healing through inhibitor release, and phenanthroline-modified particles (ZPH) acting as sensors for Fe²⁺ ion detection.
