One student wrote on the funeral home tribute page: “Her compassion and understanding helped me through troubled times as a teen. Simerly’s sister, Kathryn Norris, said Betty knew early in life she wanted to be a teacher. Betty Simerly was one of those teachers whose curriculum included not only science, English and math, but those heart subjects such as love, kindness and understanding. Betty Simerly not only taught kids to count, but she taught them what counts is best.
