Patch an apk to make it run on older android version?

Developing Android Apps
Specially, I want to run YouTube on Android 7, but it requires android 9 and older app versions don't work anymore.
A custom rom is not a solution for me due to decrease in battery performance.
So is this possible, and any hints in the right direction?
