That afternoon, a CCRB spokesperson confirmed that the police department had formally served the two officers with the disciplinary charges sought by the board. Department officials had argued they weren’t left with enough time to properly review cases that arrived so late in the process. These delays played significant roles in the outcomes of a number of high-profile disciplinary cases, most notably in the fatal shooting by an officer of Kawaski Trawick in his Bronx apartment in 2019. No matter the outcome of a disciplinary trial, the police commissioner has the final say on whether and how the officers are disciplined.
