Thousands of people crowded Plymouth’s waterfront today to watch other people fall in the water. A bumper audience turned out to cheer 200 competitors in the Red Bull Up The Mast challenge at the Barbican. The event, sponsored by the makers of the famous energy drink, is designed to test competitors’ “speed, skill and sheer determination”. A spokesperson for the event said: “The format is simple: successfully grab the flag and you’re through to the next round, fail to grab the flag and you’re out. Organisers estimated a crowd of 4,000 people watched competitors make a splash at the Barbican.
