According to new data released today by the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission, the state has generated nearly $1.3 billion in legal cannabis sales so far in 2025. Since recreational sales began in late 2018, Massachusetts retailers have sold $8.36 billion worth of marijuana products, while medical marijuana has brought in $1.5 billion since its program launched, combining for nearly $10 billion. Massachusetts voters legalized recreational marijuana in November 2016 through a voter-approved ballot initiative. The state’s first adult-use dispensaries opened in November 2018, making it the first state on the East Coast to begin recreational sales. With recreational sales consistently topping $140 million a month in 2025, the state’s marijuana industry continues to expand and demonstrate its resilience.
