The attack, which left several DPP supporters injured, has sparked outrage as police reportedly failed to arrest the perpetrators.
Eyewitnesses say that the assault appeared highly organized, pointing to the involvement of MCP cadres aligned with outgoing President Lazarus Chakwera.
Outgoing President Chakwera and MCP AccusedCritics argue that President Chakwera’s MCP has created a political climate where intimidation and violence against opposition supporters are tolerated, if not encouraged.
Calls for Immediate ActionDPP leaders are demanding urgent arrests and prosecution of those behind the Mbowe attack, while also calling on outgoing President Chakwera to publicly condemn the violence.
