Documents mistakenly disclosed this week by representatives for the Sonoma County sheriff’s deputies union shed new light on a whistleblower investigation launched by the county’s civilian watchdog agency overseeing the Sheriff’s Office.
As the target of the complaint, the Sheriff’s Office has limited information about the case.
IOLERO investigators also sought internal investigation reports on all dishonesty allegations the Sheriff’s Office sustained between 2016-2022 and related discipline.
Additionally, IOLERO sought a compilation of Sheriff’s Office social media posts made from September 2021 to June 2022.
The Sheriff’s Office prevailed in September 2024, when a judge agreed IOLERO had limited powers in whistleblower investigations.
