The last iteration of my ZatmosTM system added Front Wide speakers while reconfiguring my Atmos height layer. Only native Dolby Atmos soundtracks could utilize four height channels and the Front Wides – and most Atmos mixes are sparse with Front Wide activity. However, I felt that it did a very good job creating Front Wide channels from 2.0, 5.1, or 7.1 soundtracks. In all of those cases, I’d only get audio from four height speakers, and my Top Middles would remain unused. This defeated the purpose of having extra height speakers in the first place.
